about
"Working on the craft of my music" was a phrase which at the time was so funny to me that I was still wiping tears of laughter an hour later. I vowed to write it into a song, but when I started working on it, I ended up taking inspiration from composer Basil Kirchin. The lyrical content is all taken directly from descriptions of his work, details from his life (his work sinking to the bottom of the ocean, his process), or phrases that relate to him directly. I composed the music for this on a keyboard which I play on the track.
It ended up being completely sincerious. Well, it's a strange one. It is a song which makes some people laugh and others cry.
Further research into the side-effects of the song will be conducted once more than four willing listeners are sourced.
lyrics
Alert inactivity
is where you'll find me
Thought comes rushing in a quarter billionth second later
In altered fragility
I'll be
working on the craft of my music
In my shuttered room
With the craft of my music
Mind on the run
Mind on the craft of my music
My life's work sinks to the bottom of the ocean
I'm taking it down
Making sounds no human ears have heard before
Rolling around boulders of sound
on the shoulders of prisoners of rhythm;
birds, animals, insects, and children
I'm working on the craft of my music
in my shuttered room
with the craft of my music
This time, next time, some time and never
Working on the craft of my music forever
Within worlds within worlds within worlds
within the craft of my music
Elsewhere, where else? But in the craft of my music
Elsewhere, where else? But in the craft of my music
